Flushing out the speakers…
April 16th, 2006 porkchop
The speaker submission list has broken just about 100 posts in just three weeks. We’ve got offers of participation from all kinds of people on all kinds of things including… the current topics like RFID, the surprisingly-relevant 802.11 (with new implications), the old favorites about intelligence and urban spelunking, social talks a-la “hack the media,” and, out of left field, a talk on the history of Alan Turing.
Submissions still come in daily, and while we haven’t actually started to officially schedule the talks for day/time/location, it’s looking like our slate will again be full.
What I want to see more of is ideas for the 2nd floor, our village of the electric. We have lots planned, but not a huge amount of projects from outsiders. The Call for Participation is still open; if you have an artsy/geeky friend with an idea or an axe to grind, you may have some ideas. I’ve got an idea I’m going to try make reality.

Alan Turing is the man, not out of left field at all.

I’d gladly listen to a talk about Alan Turing. Another thing that I’d really like to see/hear is a talk about monome. I’ll email the creators to see if they would like to give a demo or something.

Great to hear you are having a talk on Turing! Many so-called hackers have never heard of him, despite the fact that he contributed so much to the world of computing, crypto and math. Turing was a true hacker, and we owe him a lot.

Yeah I was thrilled to see it. Its relevant and interesting, but I have to admit, it was the last thing I was expecting.

I’m coming to New York from Tokyo in Japan to be at HOPE. I’m really interested in Mr Turing. His life was really short and saddness but he did many things. We didn’t have a computer without him!

i would really enjoy hearing something about KRYPTOS and how the 3 pieces of the puzzle that have been solves were decrypted and what is the progress on the L4 panel, especially now that the L2 panel’s plain text has been corrected with the addition of the missing character.

Just wondering, when should applicants know their status? a week or two?
