Late-Night activities

May 22nd, 2006 porkchop

As with previous years, HOPE will be a 24×7 affair… well 24×3 anyhow.

Plans call for movies to run in a new and improved Movie Room (on the 18th floor) all night, and of course we’ve scheduled some talks with the ability to go far over time… some die-hards may remember Agent Steele keeping it interesting in the 4th hour of his 1-hour timeslot.

The 2nd floor will be open to all manner of off-hours activities. There are electronics and lockpicking workshops in the works. There’s a project in motion to make all the talks from all the previous HOPE conferences available on-demand from video stations. The network is there, all kinds of people from all over are there, and there are projects we haven’t publicly discussed much yet…like something to keep the phreaks happy I’d think…

There’s always room for more. More workshops, more video, more projects. If you have an idea or think you can pull something off, let us know by emailing speakers@2600.com.

Nice. Hopefully this year around they’ll be some areas to load up on caffeine to keep up, w/o having to go downstairs or out of the hotel.

in regards to the lockpicking workshops, will picks and tools be supplied, or do I need to bring my own?

Picks, locks, and expertise are supplied. You only get to keep the expertise.

Do you guys have anything planned to keep with the Prisoner theme?

Questions are a burden to others. Answers are prison for oneself.

Suggestion for the movie room: This clip is pretty long and details how to make a lock pick at home out of a grinder, dremel and and a cheap hacksaw blade. Pretty interesting!

Hate to break it to you kids, but in this day and age, its cheaper to buy a lockpick set then it is to buy a carton of cigs

My 19 piece southord set cost me $20…and that much less then the last carton I paid for, and much more advanced then most people could use as a first timer

As nice as it is to know we can make our own picks, unless your REALLY advanced or REALLY cheap, that day has passed

And I am up for organizing at least part of a MURS repeater if I get some promises for use…by part I mean two, two channel transcievers and elbow grease

Hey the last time I made placed an order for lock-picking tools I picked up five spare J-hooks and 5 spare tork wrenches. I figure this would be good to help out the newbie crew. If you’re coming to hope this might be a nice way to spread the love/knowledge/etc. It’ll make it easier for everyone who wants to join in. I plan to give away those five pairs to someone without picks after the weekend. I encourage any one ordering between now and the conference to do the same. An extra pick goes for about a buck and you’ll probablly really brighten a newbies weekend.

I still have some but just out of curiosity are any of the hope6 lockpick sets left anywhere?

Does anyone know if those guys who were selling pick sets at the con back in 2004 will be vending this year?

Do you think Airport security will give me a hard time if I bring lockpicks with me to hope? I’m flying in from Michigan. I’m hoping someone could also demonstrate padlock shimming for me. I’ve been picking since I was 13, but I haven’t really tried any by-pass methods. I’d like to learn some.
